Do fennecs make good pets?
Thursday, 08 February 2007

Fennecs can make good companion animals provided the kits (baby foxes) were bottle-fed and socialized well by their breeders.  Their protective instincts are strong which can result in some selfish behaviors (ie: biting the hand that feeds you).  Most fennecs don't bite unless they are hormonal, protecting their young, or defending a territory.  Since foxes are omnivores, they have sharp canines but can do little to no damage with their paws... specialized more for digging in sand.  Male fennecs (dogs) who have been neutered are reportedly more cuddly than their female counterparts.  Females (vixens) are fast, feisty, and chatty.  Both males and females respond well to clicker-training.
